Bridget's Statement to Legal Aid -August 2017
While I would not wish this on my worst enemy, I ask you, if your mother was murdered, how would you expect our police and legal justice system to respond?
I believe that this Inquest will show every attempt was made by corrupt elements, to ensure that the truth behind my mother's murder, was never known.
The toll on myself and my brothers of their actions is beyond description here today.
I was taken from my beautiful mother and my beautiful home. I was placed in government care and have struggled with almost every day of my life. Both my brothers have gone to an early grave. Shane's paintings speak volumes about his state of mind.
It is the lies and the cover up that have amplified and multiplied the cruelty inflicted on my family that day. Sadly only I am left to speak for us.
Shane died in 2011 aged 50, Steven in November last year, he didn't quite hang on long enough. It is my brother's dying wish that I continue this fight.
This Inquest is an attempt to show that corruption will not win. That in the end our society will out those that seek to undermine our justice system. If you value it, then every effort should be made to ensure that the evil elements within it are outed.
What happened to my mother should never happen again. What happened to my family should never happen again. What happened to me should never happen again.
Due to interference with witnesses and evidence this case is enormously complex.
I am sure the coroner and the police would agree. The brief is huge. Our lawyers have businesses to run, they cannot give us the time this case requires without seriously impacting on their employees and their operations. It is unreasonable for us to expect them to do so.
As a result I have been scrutinising and analysing the many complexities with my friend Juliet Wills, who has helped make this happen. We are just a couple of amateurs, we need legal guidance to ensure we don't fail.
We are not a third world country and it is not o.k for authorities to accept that corrupt government officials can get away with murder.
If we value our system, some justice, even delayed, must prevail.
If you believe that in the end justice will prevail, or at least should prevail then I ask you to provide the funds to help us seek the help we need.
